Volunteer Opportunities
Practice English. Meet the world.
On the second Saturday of every month, Yuma Co. brings English-speaking volunteers and local students together for a morning of conversation, games, and language practice. Our goal is simple: give students a chance to use English in a relaxed, welcoming environment with real people from around the world.
Yuma Co. provides the structure and tools needed for each session, including flashcards, games, conversation activities, lesson materials, and other resources. Volunteers don't need to be professional teachers—we simply ask that you speak English comfortably and come ready to engage, encourage, and have fun.
Monthly Schedule
9:30–11:00 AM — Beginner / Intermediate
Conversation, vocabulary, games, and practical English activities designed to build confidence.
11:15 AM–12:45 PM — Intermediate / Advanced
More natural conversation, storytelling, discussion, and activities designed to challenge students and develop fluency.
There is a $10 participation fee to help cover program materials and expenses. First-time participants are also encouraged to purchase a $15 Yuma Co. Volunteer Shirt, which identifies you as part of our volunteer community.
After the session, we often grab lunch together and celebrate the morning. Lunch is completely optional, and everyone covers their own meal.
We're starting small, but our goal is bigger. By bringing students and English speakers together consistently, we hope to build a lasting program that grows into a full Yuma Co. English school and creates opportunities for students to connect with the wider world.
Want to get your hands dirty and help protect the places we explore? Join us for one of Yuma Co.’s Environmental Service Days. We typically organize these projects once a month, usually on the first Monday, with each event focused on a different environmental cleanup or conservation project.
What to know before you join:
Transportation: Volunteers are responsible for getting themselves to and from the project site. We’ll provide the location and details ahead of each event.
Project costs: Depending on the project, there is typically a small participation cost of $10–$20 per person to help cover supplies, equipment, transportation of collected waste, or other project expenses.
Volunteer shirt: If it’s your first Service Day with us, we highly encourage you to pick up a $15 Yuma Co. Volunteer Shirt. It’s a simple way to identify our volunteers in the field and show that you’re part of the effort.
Time commitment: Projects can last anywhere from an hour to several hours depending on the location and the work involved.
After the cleanup: When the day is over, we often grab a meal together and celebrate what we accomplished. It’s completely optional, and everyone covers their own meal.
Our schedule changes throughout the year as new projects come together. Reach out to find out what we have coming up and join us for the next one.
